CALL FOR ABSTRACT 12THGHUCG TRACK: ESHOPHOGEAL AND GASTRIC DISEASE

Esophageal disorders

Esophageal disorders affect the oesophagus, the tube connecting the mouth to the stomach. GERD is the most common type. Disorders such as gastroesophageal reflux disease, achalasia, and Barrett’s oesophagus cause heartburn or swallowing difficulties and raise the risk of esophageal cancer. Medication, along with dietary and lifestyle modifications, can be beneficial.

What exactly are esophageal diseases?

Esophageal disorders are a group of conditions that affect the functioning of the oesophagus. The oesophagus, or food pipe, is the portion of the digestive system that transports food from the mouth to the stomach.

Various diseases can impact the oesophagus, resulting in dysphagia or difficulty swallowing. The most prevalent esophageal condition is gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD). Acid reflux (GERD) is the condition in which excessive stomach acid flows back into the oesophagus, causing inflammation.

What is the most prevalent manifestation of esophageal disease?

The most prevalent symptom of esophageal disease is heartburn, which is defined as a substernal burning sensation. Numerous esophageal disorders, including gastroesophageal reflux and motor disorders such as achalasia, can cause chest pain in the absence of typical heartburn.

Gastric Disease

After the age of 40, gas or gastric issues are among the most prevalent health issues. There are numerous causes of gastric issues, such as indigestion and an empty stomach. A gastric disorder or gastritis is an inflammation, irritation, or erosion of the stomach lining. It begins as an acute condition and can become chronic over time.

Gastritis or stomach gas is a condition characterised by the disruption of the stomach membrane layer, which results in the secretion of stomach acids. When these stomach acids come into contact with the stomach’s lining, pain and discomfort ensue. This condition ultimately results in a gastric issue.
