CME & CPD ACCREDITED 14TH WORLD GASTROENTEROLOGY, IBD & HEPATOLOGY CONFERENCE

CALL FOR ABSTRACT 14THGHUCG TRACK 19: GASTROINTESTINAL RADIOLOGY

Gastrointestinal Radiology

Gastrointestinal radiology is a specialized field of radiology that focuses on imaging techniques used to diagnose and treat disorders affecting the gastrointestinal (GI) tract. The GI tract includes organs such as the esophagus, stomach, small intestine, large intestine (colon), rectum, and anus, as well as associated structures like the liver, gallbladder, and pancreas.

How is abdominal imaging performed?

Upper and Lower GI Evaluation

As the barium travels through the digestive tract, it coats and fills the oesophagus, stomach, and first portion of the small intestine, making them more visible on an X-ray. Then, a fluoroscope is placed over the investigated bodily part and transmits continuous images to a video monitor.

Abstract Submission Form

How lengthy is a GI scan?

Typically, the operation takes about two hours. If the barium passes slowly through the small intestine, the treatment can take up to 5 hours. You will be asked to stand or sit in front of an x-ray machine and consume barium, which coats the lining of your upper GI tract, during the process.

Upper GI radiology

Upper GI radiography utilises fluoroscopy and a barium-based contrast material to obtain images of the oesophagus, stomach, and small intestine. It can be used to properly diagnose pain, acid reflux, blood in the stool, and other symptoms. It is safe and noninvasive.

You will be given preparation instructions. Your stomach must be empty, therefore you will likely be instructed not to eat, drink, or chew gum after midnight the night before (including oral medications). Inform your doctor of any recent illnesses, medical conditions, medications you are taking, and sensitivities, particularly to contrast materials. Leave your jewellery at home and wear comfortable, loose clothing. You could be required to don a gown.
