CALL FOR ABSTRACT 12THGHUCG TRACK: GASTROINTESTINAL PATHOLOGY
Gastrointestinal Pathology
The gastrointestinal tract is an important component of the digestive system, and its health is critical to our overall health. Changes in gastrointestinal habits, such as blood in the stool or abdominal pain, may indicate a gastrointestinal infection or disease
If your doctor suspects a problem, he or she may order a colonoscopy or upper endoscopy.
During these tests, doctors can see the lining of the digestive tract and take tissue samples for analysis.
What is the role of a gastrointestinal pathologist?
These samples will be examined under a microscope by a gastrointestinal pathologist for signs of disease or cancer.
He or she will assess the findings and provide a pathologic diagnosis to your doctor, which will aid in the planning of your treatment.
What is the significance of gastrointestinal health?
The gastrointestinal tract’s primary functions are to digest and absorb nutrients and to excrete waste products of digestion. The majority of nutrients are consumed in forms that are either too complex for absorption or insoluble, rendering them indigestible or incapable of being digested.
Why do we need to study gastrointestinal pathology?
The GI pathology service in surgical pathology offers comprehensive diagnostic expertise and services for the full spectrum of gastrointestinal/liver/pancreas diseases, including the diagnosis and characterization of neoplastic and non-neoplastic diseases, with a focus on chronic inflammatory diseases and tumors of the GI tract, pancreas, and liver.
